SAMWU MOURNS THE PASSING OF CDE NTHABISENG MOSIA
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the Northern Cape announces the tragic passing of our beloved Comrade Nthabiseng Mosia, who left us far too soon on 31 March 2025. Cde Nthabiseng was a fearless leader, a dedicated trade unionist, and a relentless champion for the rights of young workers in the Northern Cape.
At the time of her untimely departure, she held several critical leadership roles, including:
– Northern Cape Young Workers Provincial Secretary – where she tirelessly advocated for the empowerment and representation of young workers in the trade union movement.
– COSATU Young Workers Chairperson in the Northern Cape – a testament to her unwavering commitment and the trust her comrades placed in her leadership.
– SAMWU Shopsteward at Emthanjeni Local Municipality – where workers had recently renewed their confidence in her by re-electing her to continue serving them, a clear reflection of her dedication and impact.
Cde Nthabiseng made history when she became the first SAMWU Young Workers Provincial Secretary in the Northern Cape, breaking barriers and paving the way for future young leaders. Her passion for worker justice, youth development, and gender equality set her apart as a dynamic and visionary leader.
Her election as COSATU Young Workers Provincial Chairperson was a natural progression, given her exceptional ability to mobilise, educate, and inspire young workers to fight for fair labour practices and economic justice. She was a vocal advocate against workplace exploitation, unemployment, and the marginalisation of young people in the labour market.
Even in her role at Emthanjeni Local Municipality, she remained a defender of workers’ rights, ensuring that their voices were heard and their dignity upheld. Her recent re-election as a Shopsteward was a powerful affirmation of the trust and respect she commanded among her colleagues.
The labour movement has lost a rising star, a comrade of unmatched energy, and a leader whose contributions will resonate for years to come.
Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be communicated in due course. We call on all workers, comrades, and friends to honour her legacy by continuing the struggle for justice, equality, and workers’ rights—the very principles she lived and fought for.
May her revolutionary spirit rest in eternal power.
