SAMWU Concludes RSSCs in North West Province
The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the North West Province has concluded its Regional Shop Stewards Councils (RSSCs) in all three of its regions, the Nothern, Southern and Mahikeng in meetings held from the 17th to 19th October 2019.
These RSSCs were held as part of the roadmap developed by the union’s Central Executive Committee meeting to rebuild, renew and reload the union. The RSSCs in this province were held when workers are faced with serious challenges including victimizations in intimidations in the form of suspensions and dismissals by the employer.
The RSSCs elected Regional Office Bearers (ROBs) as follows;
Mahikeng Region
Chairperson : Joseph Qelisele
Deputy Chair : Vuyisile Jekimlambo
Treasurer : Modipadi Ruele
Secretary : Dammy Mosiapoa
Deputy Secretary : Thabang Chachu
Southern Region
Chairperson : Justice Lekgonyane
Deputy Chair : Donald Sephanyane
Treasurer : Kedibone Moeng
Secretary : Fikile Mothibedi
Deputy Secretary : Tumelo Lee
Northern Region
Chairperson : Lesedi Kgoroba
Deputy Chair : Neo Mokone
Treasurer : Sarah Ndlovu
Secretary : Douglas Moji
Deputy Secretary : Monica Zwede
We congratulate the newly elected ROBs along with the Gender and Youth Structures elected at the RSSC. These newly elected regional leaders have a huge task ahead of them particularly given the fact that over 68% of municipalities in this province are under administration coupled with the fact that these very same municipalities have become breeding ground for corruption and maladministration. We trust that these newly elected leaders will be first line of defense for workers in the province.
SAMWU in the North West province is now prepared and ready to hold its Provincial Congress which will is scheduled to be held in November 2019. The Province further looks forward to hosting the union’s 12th National Congress which the Central Executive Committee resolved that it would be held in Mahikeng by March 2020.
