SAMWU Submits Salary and Wage Demands to Magalies Water
The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) as the majority union representing workers at Magalies Water which supplies water to the Rusternburg, Madibeng, Moretele Local Municipalities in the North West has submitted salary and wage demands for the 2017/18 financial year.
Following a rigorous consultation with our members, and the lapse of the previous salary and wage agreement, our demands have been submitted as follows;
1. A single year agreement backdated from 1 July 2017
2. 20% salary increase for all workers
3. An additional 10% salary hike for workers on P7 – P18 on a total cost to company
4. 12.5% standby allowance
5. 10 days paid paternity leave
6. 10 days paid family leave per year
7. 25 days annual leave days
8. 15% shift allowance
9. 12% retirement contribution by the employer
As negotiations begin on Wednesday 30 August 2017, we trust that the employer will come to the table and negotiate with us in good faith, particularly given the fact that there is currently no agreement which means that workers have automatically taken a salary cut until such time that a new agreement is signed.
