SAMWU Welcomes Placement of Lim 368 Under Administration

The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU Limpopo) has learned with much admiration as well as relief about the long overdue decision by the Limpopo Provincial Government to invoke section 139 of the Constitution by placing the (Lim 368) Modimolle – Mookgophong under administration.

This decision will help the provincial government to work with speed to assist the municipality as well as appropriate resources where a need arise to bail out this ailing municipality who has beaten its own record of not being able to pay salaries to its employees.

As Samwu, we are confident that this decision will bring back confidence of our people to the government including the communities of Modimolle – Mookgophong who were becoming despondent about abysmal delivery of much needed services to them.

The municipality which is run though a DA led coalition has dismally failed the citizens which it is supposed to service. We have for a long time been lied to by the DA that wherever they govern there is clean and accountable governance, however the opposite in this case is the truth. Workers have not been paid their salaries while third parties such as pension funds, medical aids and funeral policies have not been paid.

We also hope that the entire political management team, the management albeit acting and the entire workforce as well as communities will give the administrator who will be designated the much-needed space to come up with systems to restore credibility to the financial systems as well as administrative systems to rescue this municipality.
