SAMWU wishes NUM a successful Special National Congress
The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) as an affiliate of COSATU takes this opportunity to send well wishes to its sister union the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) as their Special National Congress begins today until tomorrow under the theme “Back to basic is when we defend and advance to build a radical movement.”
The special National Congress theme is befitting for the times in which many workers across all industries have been victims of the attack on collective bargaining and union bashing. We trust that delegates to the congress will, as they continue where they left off early last year, come up with concrete resolutions on protecting and defending collective bargaining.
As one of the largest stakeholders at Eskom, we trust that delegates will come up with implementable solutions that will see the country being steed out of the constant blackouts that the country is facing on a daily basis. Poor South Africans and the working class in general have been the hardest hit by loadshedding and are all looking forward to the end of these blackouts. Importantly, we wish delegates to come up with resolutions aimed at ensuring job security across all industries in which the NUM organises in.
As SAMWU, we wish the NUM well and trust that delegates will have frank and robust engagements on all issues facing workers’ movements within and beyond the country’s borders.
A luta continua!
